The story of Thomas Tew is best told somewhere in the realm between probable and plausible. Hard facts about the life of Rhode Island's own pirate are few and far between. Yet, through careful examination of contemporary court records, testimonies, and eyewitness accounts, along with historically accepted secondary sources, a truthful rendering of Tew's exploits comes to life in A Gold Chain, a Wooden Leg, and a Treasure Chest. With detailed analysis of the historiography of Thomas Tew, no single volume has presented a more accurate or comprehensive look at one of the most enigmatic freebooters in the Golden Age of Piracy.
